When Breath Becomes Air - Book Review

March 9,2017 marks the second death anniversary of Dr.Paul Kalanithi, an Indian-American Neurosurgeon and writer, who has left behind a legacy of hope, faith and the spirit of positivity. This is the review of Dr.Paul's autobiography,'When Breath becomes Air'.

'When Breath becomes Air' chronicles the indomitable spirit, courage and the immense strength with which Dr.Paul endured the challenges and difficulties he faced in the last few days of his life.It requires a lot of courage to reveal oneself the way Dr.Paul has,in this memoir. What is more painful than death itself, is knowing when you will die and Dr.Paul has lived this period of his life in the best possible way, with utmost grace, with every gesture of his, inspiring and strengthening those around him.
The very thought of death makes many tremble in fear, but the way Dr.Paul chose to live his last few days clearly reflects his inner strength, and his perfect understanding of what life is all about. The decision he made,to chronicle all his life's experiences is a great gesture for,his life has inspired millions and will continue to do so in the years to come.
Influencing the lives of others even after you are gone,is a gift that very few people possess and Dr.Paul was one such kind.He could have lived his life post-cancer diagnosis, lamenting for what had happened to him and why he was the victim of such a dreadful disease, when he spent a major part of his life treating people for the same, comforting them and making them feel better, striving hard to add cheer and relief to his patients and their families.Instead,he decided to be strong and accept life as it presents itself.
Death is inevitable, but making the most of life when one is still alive is all that matters.Life is not always fair, but your perception and optimism can create an air of positivity around you and add beauty to your life.A day happily lived is definitely worth much more than a year full of regrets.
Dr,Paul's presence is deeply missed, but he is immortal for all the grit, determination and the strength he has instilled in every one of us.I regard this, not merely as a book but a guide to appreciate what life has in store for us and a lesson to count one's blessings, because Life is what you make it.
